"Wave" heatsink now in Home Theatre and top end ENR models !
With increasing numbers of loudspeakers now using multiples of drivers, (many of which are well below 8ohms impedance), the resultant impedance for the total loudspeaker system is generally dropping. The problematic effect of this is to greatly increase the heat generated in amplifier output stages. To allow for these current and future impedance reductions, the top end REDGUM amplifiers now incorporate a one-piece cast aluminium base plate as a heatsink. With such extensive heat dissipation available for these Stereo and Home Theatre models, this means that fans are no longer needed for cooling! And naturally these amplifiers are also rated into 2ohms and 1ohm loads.

The long awaited remote control is now a reality. New orders can be placed with remote control as a 'factory-fit' option. Cosmetics are retained as close to the original as possible - see picture on link below. Older units can be retro-fitted if required.

True to our philosophy of reproducing the sound of real (un-amplified) instruments, we attended the Auckland folk Festival and wowed the listeners. A great turnout which I am sure we will attend again!

We are currently working through the redesign our entire range of circuit boards with the RoHS Directive in mind, and it is proving to be no fun! These changes are 'out of our hands' (e.g. solder is 40% lead!) so expect large and unpredictable price increases soon!!

Sorry, we have no photos ... because our 'man on the ground' said: "there were too many people to get a good shot! ..... the system was so impressive in that tent. It kept its own against 1000 banjos, all playing in a different key with various tunings and non-tunings. But what was just as amazing is that it retained a full sound range amidst hundreds of people trying to talk above the noise. So you had the higher string values, the low standup bass sounds, and the higher but still low drone of people."

It is always hard to find instruments to listen to that aren't being "funnelled" through a 'sound reinforcement system' i.e. a Public Address system. Why worry? Because of the effect of the PA's speaker system on the frequency response (basically within the voiceband). Sadly, even our top concert halls 'help' the orchestra with such 'equalisation'. So it was a treat to visit Harrietville and sit in the sun listening to UNAMPLIFIED (i.e. real) instruments, up close and personal!

First unit to arrive will be a Home Theatre amplifier - 5.1 (- 2 x 45WRMS + 3 x 25WRMS with that great REDGUM sound)They should be available early Jan 2005.

With not even one colour blind, country horticulturalist in sight, it "Wow!"-ed even the long-standing patrons of the Fest. When the musos themselves come back to have a listen, time and again, and always bringing other music friends with them "to see what the hoo-ha is all about", well, you know you have nailed the sound just right.
When people hear a REDGUM, we're used to them saying in amazement that ... it sounds like music, not Hi-Fi! ... a simple way of putting how they ... can feel the emotion of the music ... in all its layers ... Perhaps what surprised them most was that the total system came from one Audiophile company. (Ed. Here we go with the Synergy thing again.)

Yes, it's "that time of year" again ... Melbourne's showing of the best of Australian Hi-Fi at the Home Entertainment Show. Last year, we "Wow!"-ed 'em with an A-V demonstration (but without the V, well, a moving one at least ... as we have nothing to hide with our sonics, we wouldn't want them to be distracted by the visual, would we?).
We know you'll understand! This would have been our seventh year ... but this year we decided to rest, being the seventh 'n all. Home Entertainment Show - the sequel
Delusions of grandeur? With two demo rooms at the recent Home Entertainment Show in Melbourne, REDGUM set everyone's expectations askew..........or was it just the sloping walls? From sunrise to sunset (well, almost, with 12 hour show days), Melbourne provided an atmospheric backdrop to the 2 Channel room, complete with the new audio system stands. A pity it was just too dark in the Home Theatre demo room for visitors to check out that all electronics and speakers were made by REDGUM Audio. Visitors were just "too tired to move" to other displays and happily sat mesmerized by the A/V performance. Supported by Benq's latest DLP projector, REDGUM's performance was not delusional - it was 2 Channel quality for the Home Theatre.

We have now expanded our core range of products!
Now included are:
1/ Amplifier "s" suffix models which have a single volume control. This is an alternative to the dual mono control that remains on all standard models. For "s" models, the number of knobs on the fascia will remain the same, but now as Volume/Balance/Selector.
2/ DACs and CD Players - REDGUM CD Player models are now also available as DACs only.
Further changes include:-
a) A choice of amplifier switches - the standard key/rocker/press button switches, or other variant.
b) The ENR Signature series - REDGUM's High Current models - are now available only as "s" models with the single volume control, and come with new look knobs, labels, and chassis.
c) For the latest in IC technology, the RGCD5 model has been upgraded to model designate RGCD5ENR. A kit to upgrade existing RGCD5 models is available - it supplies a new circuit board that can be inserted easily and without soldering.All these can be ordered through your local dealer!
note: The "S" and "ENR" model variants are slightly more expensive due to the extra electronics, and/or cosmetic changes. The price of our base models has NOT increased, in line with the new models.

It doesn't get much better than this!!As promised earlier in 'Late News', Audio Ideas Guide have now published their review of the REDGUM RGi120 and RGCD5. In the most recent issue Andrew Marshall had this to say:
"..it proved to be an outstanding player sonically, the DAC among the better ones I've heard........ I liked the player's freedom from grain, or that digital hardness that makes me put on LP's. It was dynamic, clean, and detailed,..... These qualities were carried through the RGi120 amplifier with great transparency and energy. Watch out for release soon of our RGi120ENR Signature Series version of the 120+120 watt integrated amplifier. Initial test figures show an output of 162.5+162.5W Rms per channel continuous test tone both channels driven. 189 WRms one channel continuous test tone One channel driven. 250+250WRms both channels driven with 10% duty cycle (typical music content). The power supply is substantially larger than the standard 120w amplifier with a hugh torroidal transformer, bigger filtercaps, large metal diode bridge, larger 60amp gold terminals, dual internal earth wiring, dual internal speaker wiring.

NEW 35+35 Watt Amplifier!!
Also just released is our RGi35 a 35+35W integrated Amplifier based on the RGi60 Chassis but using plastic case MOSFETs. These MOSFETS have the same voltage, current and power rating as our 60+60Watt MOSFETS but require simpler hardware for mounting - a noticable cost saving. Typical final test results are 41.6 w RMS sinewave both channels continuous, 49 w RMS sinewave one channel driven continuously, 79 w RMS both channels driven with 10% duty cycle (typical music content). The unit has the same looks as the RGi60 Amplifier (and we really have to find some way of telling them apart!!).

Phono stage
We have just completed our new phonostage using Bi-fet Integrated circuit tecnology. The unit is housed in an anodised aluminium housing, using a sophisticated Dual DC-DC on-board convertor to produce hum free rail voltages from any standard DC power pack. Like our amplifiers, this phono stage is remarkably clean & quiet. It has a small 'hatch' underneath to allow access to a switchbank to swap the unit from Moving Magnet to Moving coil Cartridges. The unit costs about 1/3 of the price of our RGi60 amplifier.
