April 29 - May 2, 2004
Wilkesboro, NC, USA
No, ... much
picking of blues, red gum and blue grass ... is not the work of a colour blind, country
horticulturalist!
It is the
makings of another great MerleFest
- an Americana Music Celebration in memory of the legendary finger-picker,
and much more, Eddy Merle Watson.
A Festival with a unique
History
, its music is a Thesaurus-user's delight ... starting with
"eclectic" ... ! (and that's not a typo).
REDGUM Audio USA is delighted to be able to meet you there ... as a Festival
sponsor ... a meeting of "like minds" (with ears attached)!
April 2004 (third weekend - Melbourne only!)
Ah, the good
'ol Home Town Advantage - they keep on loving you ... even when you're not there!
Yes, it's "that time of year" again ... Melbourne's
showing of the best of Australian Hi-Fi at the Home Entertainment Show. Last
year, we "Wow!"-ed 'em with an A-V demonstration (but without the
V, well, a moving one at least ... as we have nothing to hide with our
sonics, we wouldn't want them to be distracted by the visual, would we?).
We know you'll understand! This would have been our seventh year ... but
this year we decided to rest, being the seventh 'n all. So much to focus
on at the coalface with materials and website preparations in support of our new
REDGUM Audio USA
distributor about to "Wow!" 'em at MerleFest
in a week's time (see above).
April 2004 (second weekend)
If you come from the Land of
the Chocolate
Bilby ...... then you might like to see what else the e.bunny.com.au
could bring ... in real money, of course. (Toy money is for the
"Rest of the World".) All yours - the Oz section
of the Online Store.
And if you are worried about the SAL (Spouse Approval Limit) being accidently tripped at
the push of the wrong button ... no such danger! Check the
detailed specs on this site first, then spend as long as you like "Just browsing!" in the Online
Store.

PRICE RESTRUCTURE ... for 2
Channel REDGUM Amplifiers
This "adjustment" does not mean "up"
in Accountant-speak!
Rather, by simplifying how we offer the variants of each amplifier
model, you win.
And in a number of ways:
1 - all single volume versions now the same (= lower) price as the
dual volume version.
2 - the higher powered amplifiers we introduced as a bonus with
last year's price rise are all presented now as separate 'Signature Series"
(ENR) versions.
3 - as you read all the reviews for whichever model takes your fancy, the
possibility of each model having "that little bit extra" power ...
well, quite a lot really with an ENR version!! ... gives you additional
flexibilty to fulfil your dreams.
plus
PRICE RESTRUCTURE ...
for the "Let 'er rip!" DIYers
Yes, even the Subwoofer Amplifier plates
prices have been "adjusted
down" while their robustness goes up even further!
As a design standard, the HardLife (HL) board is now included at
no additional cost for our SW1 & SW2 models. This means all new
production SW1's are actually SW1HL's under the bonnet. Ditto for the SW2's.
Yours for "doof"-free musical bass.
The Rest of the Year, 2003
Yep, we didn't write much after that, did we?
Too busy pumping all that extra power into your amplifiers to balance the
"upwards price adjustment", and expanding the factory, and the new
website design, and answering all your emails ... well, heaps of things, ... but
that doesn't always make them interesting for the reader. So we saved your time
by not writing anything ... leaves you more time to look at the reviews instead!
Not to mention the Awards and the ......
(Ed. Er, about the transformers, she's just a little "blond"
sometimes.)
NOT April 1st, 2003
Financial Health Warning!!
PRICE RISE on May 1st, 2003
........ for the first time in 3 years, yes, it's "that time of year"
again!
(Well, we couldn't post this on April Fool's Day, could we?!
)
Although the range of products offered by REDGUM Audio has
expanded greatly over these last 3 years, the pricing structure has remained the
same as before. So, yes, the prices must rise, but so will the power offered by
all models of amplifiers. That means, for a little bit more, you get a lot more
amplifier!!
And on it goes through the full range. With even more
attention to the less visible details, the neutrality of the REDGUM sound
remains .... how shall we say? .... distinctive. (A new kind of
oxymoron!?)
April 2003
It's still "that time of year" again...

...........REDGUM RGi35 - the latest review in Audio & Video Lifestyle Magazine
The proud parents of this REDGUM baby don't mind it being publicly
reported that their baby kicks a lot! They are just delighted that it is a
"chip off the old block". As the review by Nic Tatham found, this
35 Watter fulfils Prince's idea of "Willing to do the Work".

REDGUM takes 'Nine Inch Nails'... and spits them out whole!!
Read the latest gutsy review by Nic Tatham of a REDGUM system in Australia's own Audio & Video Lifestyle magazine (#116 - available August only). This time it's of the synergy
between a RGi60s amplifier, RGCD2 player, and RGSB Bookshelf speakers. So grab a copy of this months issue, and find out why AVL rates this system 18 out of 20 in terms of Performance, Build Quality, Compatibility, and Value for money!
Even better, magazine buyers have a chance to win the system set up on REDGUM's
own audio stand!!
Meanwhile here's a teaser..
"Musical and involving there's nothing about this system not to like..."
"Jeff Buckley's ..pasionate vocals sound full of emotion on the REDGUM system.. Listening to Jeff Buckley means you often have to be in the right frame of mind - these Redgums will definitely put you in it"
" ..with the ambient atmospherics of Moby's 18.. The system submerges you in a lush, lilting sound, delivering fluid depth that urges you to take the plunge. There's enthralling presence with this sort of easy-going music.. "
" ..the speakers are easily capable of producing a much substiantial 'out of the box' listening experience. Soundstaging and bass weight are both greater than you'd expect.. "

Home Entertainment Show - the sequel
Delusions of grandeur? With two demo rooms at the recent Home Entertainment Show in Melbourne, REDGUM set everyone's expectations askew..........or was it
just the sloping walls? From sunrise to sunset (well, almost, with 12 hour show days), Melbourne provided an atmospheric backdrop to the 2 Channel room,
complete with the new audio system stands. A pity it was just too dark in the Home Theatre demo room for visitors to check out that all electronics
and speakers were made by REDGUM Audio. Visitors were just "too tired to move" to other displays and happily sat mesmerized by the A/V performance.
Supported by Benq's latest DLP projector, REDGUM's performance was not delusional - it was 2 Channel quality for the Home Theatre.
March 2002
REDGUM at the Home Entertainment Show
April 4 - 7, in Suite 4B at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre we are pleased to again be a part of the Herald Sun Home Entertainment Show. For the very first time, the complete REDGUM system of Home Theatre electronics and magnetically shielded speakers will be presented, along with visuals using
the latest in DLP projector technology. In a sound isolated room upstairs, away from the distractions of the main exhibition floor, you can appreciate the real
meaning of the word "stunning" for both 2 channel and multi-channel REDGUM system.

Exciting News!!...
We have now expanded our core range of products!
Now included are:
1/ Amplifier "s" suffix models which have a single volume control. This is an alternative to the dual mono control that remains on all standard models. For "s" models, the number of
knobs on the fascia will remain the same, but now as Volume/Balance/Selector.
2/ DACs and CD Players - REDGUM CD Player models are now also available as DACs only.
Further changes include:-
a) A choice of amplifier switches - the standard key/rocker/press button switches, or other variant.
b) The ENR Signature series - REDGUM's High Current models - are now available only as "s" models with the single volume control, and come with new look knobs, labels, and chassis.
c) For the latest in IC technology, the RGCD5 model has been upgraded to model designate RGCD5ENR. A kit to upgrade existing RGCD5 models is available - it supplies a new circuit board that can be inserted easily and without soldering.
All these can be ordered through your local dealer!
note: The "S" and "ENR" model variants are slightly more expensive due to the extra electronics, and/or cosmetic changes. The price of our base models has NOT increased, in line with the new models.
For further info, please see our products page.

We had to shut him up!! For months now Ian has been jumping up and down saying "I wanna play on the website!!" So for the sake of peace and harmony, we gave him his own little ('padded') cyber room. The 'Factory Floor' sub-site allows Ian to more easily keep you informed about future products and projects, and the very latest developments here at REDGUM Audio. We think it's a great idea. (He has one every now and then!) We're sure you will too. To see Ian's creation... click here

"A Stunning combination of power and authority"!
That's how Roger Kanno describes our RGH900 in his exciting review for Home Theater & Sound. Other comments include...
"..vocals solid and powerful with plenty of air around them, they did not distort or become compressed when the amp was pushed hard. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with Arcadi Volodos and the Berlin Philharmonic [Sony SK 64384], which I acquired based on Srajan Ebaen’s review, was reproduced beautifully, with a broad, deep soundstage. The timbre of the piano was bang-on.."
".. just as accomplished with movie soundtracks as it was with two-channel music.... Funky techno soundtracks also sounded terrific"
"..able to sort out complex passages in films, with voices presented with a realism that I had not previously heard in my system, while still reproducing dynamic sound effects and music simultaneously. The RGH900 sounded like a more expensive amplifier than it is and actually sounded less like a "multichannel home-theater amplifier".. In fact, it was so good that I lived with it for many weeks as the main source of amplification for my combined home-theater and music system -- happily."

REDGUM RGi120 wins...
SoundStage "REVIEWERS' CHOICE" 2000!!
SoundStage had this to say about the REDGUM RGi120...
"I found this $1700 integrated amplifier to be a sonic knockout and every bit the equal of much pricier gear. ... I listened to this unit so much because I simply wanted to, not because I had to. ... it is clean, clear, fast and precise. ... Imaging is tight and stable, and detail is excellent. ... Highs are pristine without any sort of 'tizz.' Lows are deep and tight. Midrange is spot-on and without any exaggeration or bloat. At both low and high volumes, detail and retrieval of ambient cues are outstanding."
"I’m used to my reference-level Blue Circle gear, stuff that excels in letting all the details through, and this Redgum integrated amp is definitely right up there -- so close, in fact, that given its price it's downright scary!"
"... don’t be scared to pair this with speakers of any price. It’s that good."

It doesn't get much better than this!!
As promised earlier in 'Late News', Audio Ideas Guide have now published their review of the REDGUM RGi120 and RGCD5. In the most recent issue Andrew Marshall had this to say:
"..it proved to be an outstanding player sonically, the DAC among the better ones I've heard........ I liked the player's freedom from grain, or that digital hardness
that makes me put on LP's. It was dynamic, clean, and detailed,.....
These qualities were carried through the RGi120 amplifier with great transparency and energy. This is the best MOSFET amplifier I've heard, and easily the most
powerful integrated amp in my experience. .....this amp is as clean as a whistle, and very quick with transients. I found it particularly impressive with 96khz DVD's,
the absolute live performance (sic) quality of these fully conveyed. .....easily the best integrated amplifier I've heard........ But the REDGUM delivers (as the casinos
like to claim) excitement, this time Aussie style." (Audio Ideas Guide, Vol.19 #4 p21)
Also in an elaborate review of the latest Sharp SM-SX100 Digital amplifier ($US25,000):
"The REDGUM RGi120 had a slightly more robust and dynamic quality......." (Audio Ideas Guide, Vol.19 #4 p 20)

NEW 35+35 Watt Amplifier!!
Also just released is our RGi35 a 35+35W integrated Amplifier based on the RGi60 Chassis but using plastic case MOSFETs. These MOSFETS have the same voltage, current and power rating as our 60+60Watt MOSFETS but require simpler hardware for mounting - a noticable cost saving. Typical final test results are 41.6 w RMS sinewave both channels continuous, 49 w RMS sinewave one channel driven continuously, 79 w RMS both channels driven with 10% duty cycle (typical music content). The unit has the same looks as the RGi60 Amplifier (and we really have to find some way of telling them apart!!).
Sept 99
Phono stage
We have just completed our new phonostage using Bi-fet Integrated circuit tecnology. The unit is housed in an anodised aluminium housing, using a sophisticated Dual DC-DC on-board convertor to produce hum free rail voltages from any standard DC power pack. Like our amplifiers, this phono stage is remarkably clean & quiet. It has a small 'hatch' underneath to allow access to a switchbank to swap the unit from Moving Magnet to Moving coil Cartridges. The unit costs about 1/3 of the price of our RGi60 amplifier.
